The company I work for has been looking for just the right person for the vacant Office Manager opening. Hundreds have applied and dozens have been interviewed but no one is good enough so far. Their main weakness: Charisma!

Our CEO said that in today's incredibly tough job market we needed to redouble our efforts to find charismatic people in key positions in the company. He says an MBA would be helpful, certifications by Microsoft in Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, OneNote and PowerPoint a must and experience working for one of the leaders in our industry very important. But CHRISMA is the most important thing he is looking for and as of now no one interviewed has it, so we keep looking.

Know anyone with extreme charisma looking to be an Office Manager in the DC area?

What is he looking for? A Hooters chick? He sounds like he's looking for a model type, not an actual worker. Your boss is not being realistic, and he needs to keep his private needs separate from the company needs.

You should apply. After your excellent efforts in retrieving that paper, you'd do well in this position.

Plenty of charismatic people in DC, they call them politicians. Only admin take the time to learn any kind of office program, certification is rare. Working knowledge is better. But a personality? Good luck with that. I wonder what they need this personality for. Most people with charismatic personalities do not want to be cooped up in admin jobs.

I can see where he is coming from. But wonder if he is looking for too much for too little pay and benefits. (The job pays about $60K)

He thinks the person in that role needs a combination of administrative, clerical and computer skills for the paperwork and office oversight duties but also needs a mix of salesmenship, an aggressive assertive personality, a gift working with people, public speaking skills, and a hard nose stature to get things done and work with extremely difficult employees, managers, clients, consultants and vendors.

If the job market is as bad as they say it is, why can't our CEO ask for the moon and the stars, other companies are and they usually can get it in the worst job market since the Reagan Recession in the 1980s.

You can ask, you might get but its unlikely. What you might get is someone temporarily. Anyone with all of those qualities will be ready to jump from your ship on a moments notice. I would say about 75% of the workforce is planning the same. Yes you are asking for either a 100k person. Or a 60k charismatic person and their 40k assistant.
