Best advice... Ignore what everyone tells you and pick what you love.

Worst... Really haven't received much bad advice. I recall my parents telling me some years ago that I could get any old degree, even the basket weaving types, and make great money. Glad I ignored that golden nugget

I don't think it's bad advice if you really follow through. If you pursue something you love, in theory, you will latch on and excel at it. If you become the best at anything, you can make a great living doing something you love. You just have to put in the effort to be the best, which is where many fall short. If you're average at anything, you will be compensated accordingly. In many occupations, "average" just doesn't make for a good living.

True Andy and therein lies the rub. Most people don't think it through they see the pros and not the cons.

Totally agree with both of these. I started my business later in life. It's great. I wish I had done it sooner.

Best: keep your network and your technical skills current.
Worst: Hard work always pays off. (It doesn't, sometimes "brown nosing" pays off also!)

Yep, but this is one colleges recruiters sell people every day. Yes, don't worry about student loans, follow your dreams. Tell that to the person with $100k of debt and a BA in Art History or Women's Studies.

Yup, I say it often myself. Met a lot of slackers and dimwits who ended up getting positions of authority. Many of them were the types who simply couldn't handle the actual work, so the company somehow figured they would be a better fit telling OTHER people to do the work
