I won't comment on the "new" methodologies listed but I have a hard time taking these "career coaches" advices and articles very seriously.

I find it hard to believe that people actually get paid for writing fluffy little "articles" such as these. And I agree with you about the credentials of many of these so-called "career coaches" and "job/employment counselors". I've come across a few really good ones over the years but nowadays (maybe as a by-product of high unemployment rates) there seems to be a glut of ill-educated and ill-equipped charlatans in the ranks.

The list doesn't look like your normal type of job search list. To me it looks like a new and fresh way to get closer to employment online.

there is one site i generally really like, askamanager.org. and there are a few people out there who offer good advice. but they write actual articles, and they specialize in their subject. these bite-sized list posts suggesting gimmicky methods (and yeah, none of those are all that new either, except i never heard of careersonar before) are generally pretty worthless. there's no reason to trust this kind of advice, it's just quickie content written by whoever to generate pageviews. believe me, i've worked writing these kinds of posts - mostly not career-related ones, but they're all the same. people who write these just get or pitch lists of topics, do 5 minutes of research, and write something up really quickly.

some of the stuff in here is good enough advice (like being aware of what googling your name turns up), but it's all rehashed from a million near-identical lists.

Google is what has worked for me when I've been job hunting... I don't need career coaches or job counselors to do what I can already do for myself.

Job hunting requires a little effort is all...
