Okay, so I'll be honest. I probably applied to too many jobs at Macy's. the system doesn't let you apply multiple times for the same position though so I didn't double apply to the same postings.
I applied to every position at Macy's my qualifications matched in a 2 hour radius from me. This resulted in 25+ applications.
I'd get the typical submission response, but always got rejected with an email 1-2 weeks later saying "we decided to pursue other candidates at this time."
Now every position posting I apply for with Macy's or Bloomingdales automatically receives an email 1-2 days after saying "Unfortunately, we are unable to consider your application further for this opportunity."
Could I have been temporarily blacklisted due to too many applications and too many rejections? Thoughts?
you don't qualify for the positions you are applying for. Move on...

Macy's is just strange, I really think they just do a lotto system for who they select to advance in interviews. I know two people that their wife's have applied to Macy's, and never got so much as an interview, yet still see those same "we are now hiring cosmetic counter sales" signs there.
Sorry, I really don't buy the line, "there are no jobs", it really means...."I get by, someone pays the bills, and there are no jobs I want".
There are always swing shift or night shift jobs at the gas station, males are hired at nursing homes, for CNA work, even uncertified. I don't know where you live....but I bet, I would be able to find you a job within a week...and you would have a million reasons why you could not take this job or that job....bottom line, if you had no place to live, no food, no money, you would be looking at more jobs than Macy's....I suggest Wal Mart, they always need night workers for inventory and re stocking.
I applied to Macy's not too long ago, for a clerical HR assistant type job at their warehouse. I had all the credentials in the world - warehouse experience, retail experience, clerical experience, HR experience. STILL got rejected. I got the rejection style that you first got. It was the only one I applied for. There's not a retail store by me so I didn't try for that, or I would have. They also told me they have "nothing" for me. I was shocked, I have YEARS of experience in this type of industry. But as others say, seems like these days it's more about who you know, not what you know.
When you go to Barnes and Nobles - what about asking them if they do paper applications, and trying there?

Nice assumption.
I've applied to over 200 jobs. This includes fast food, hospitals, every store in the mall, etc.

I applied to Barnes and Noble as a bookseller and a cafe person. They hired somebody else for both positions though.
Did you notice the first name that popped up on HR Blacklist? Teddy Rukspin (sic)....lol.
