Every time I see this woman in action I get the feeling that I am watching a fourteen year old mincing around the cafeteria. I know,,,I shouldn't discriminate just because she looks like a child, but she also speaks like a kid...and doesn't seem to exude authority.
I am sure some of it has to do with the 'flamboyance' in the tech world and California style...but Yahoo is sort of a mature company, not some latest and greatest high flying tech company.
What do you think? Could you work with her and keep a serious face?
Yes, I have had bosses and managers like her. She exudes authority in a "soft" and intellectual, understated kind of way and a lot of it is due to her previous experiences at Google and educational background at Stanford.
It's Silicon Valley style: generally understated at work, egalitarian, and intellectual.

Unless you are at a pretty senior level you will probably never interact with the CEO in any meaningful manner. By all accounts she is a brilliant computer scientist with an innovative outlook on the industry, with impeccable credentials from her time at google. You don't want to work for her because of how she speaks?
Tell you what. I know nothing about computer science, but if you want you can come work for me. I will act authoritatively and yell at you once in a while. Will that work for you?

She's hands on. She'll likely meet with the coders. When I worked at Google I got to see her in action. Her organization was very flat.
Keep in mind she's converting Yahoo back into the "startup mentality".

Wasn't she VP level at google? CEOs have an entirely different set of responsibilities. Given the sheer number of programmers at a place like yahoo I don't see how she could be hands on. There are simply not enough hours in the day.
I am not a programmer though, and all of my info is 2nd hand from friends who work at yahoo or google.
