Is it professional to ask to be paid entirely in equity/stock purchases when negotiating a new position? In other words, if an employer offered to pay me $60,000 in salary, would it be out of the element of things to ask to have it substituted completely for some employer-determined valuation of company stock options?

I know this is often done in start-ups, but I don't have a clue if big enterprise employers would even be willing to entertain such a proposition.

No. If anything it's highly UN-professional.

A year into a job and once you've had the time to see it "from the inside"...
all sorts of things might be worth exploring.
