(Reuters) - A heavy turkey dinner caused one worker to sleep through his shift. Another said his false teeth flew out the car window as he was driving along the highway.

These were just two of the imaginative excuses employees gave bosses when calling in sick last year, according to a study released on Thursday by CareerBuilder, the jobs website.

Worked for a guy who told me a funny one... Hired a guy who wasn't too brilliant, but he didn't have to be for that particular job. Called in one day saying his mother had passed away. About 3 years later, he called in with the same excuse. Boss told him not to bother coming in the next day either... Unless he was coming to collect his belongings. Guess he hated liars.

When I lived in Chicago I carried a can of pepper spray on my key chain. It got lodged in a door I was closing and emptied on my hands and I spread it on my face unknowingly as I was leaving for work. I didn't go anywhere that day!
