When I had an employer realize I am mid 40's and saw the objection on their face, I countered them with do you want the guy that needs hand holding and lots of training or do you want a professional that has done everything in sales, save manager? I told them you are smart, your are talented do you work cheap? The HM said you make a good point and I can tell you know what you are talking about.

Fortunately for me, I also have good genes and have aged well. I was at my doctor's office last week and his PA (who is new) looked at my date of birth and looked at me and told me she would have never thought I was 59. I asked her, "Honestly, how old do I look to you?" She told me 40. I think my hair needs a makeover. Even though I'm not grey, still blonde, the cut and style could be updated to something more modern, but not OTT. My wardrobe has always kind of fallen in the middle of the road. Dressing for flight attendant interviews over the years put me in the habit of dressing for the job you want, and that's the way I've always dressed for any job I've had.

Never too old in my opinion. My last career change has been age 51. Learning lots of stimulating new things. If you can stay within the organization and continue to rack up years towards your retirement, all the better.
