Sorry, I know that's probably sort of a confusing title.
There's an outdoor education center out in California that looks completely badass, that I would love to work for. It appears there are only five year-round positions at the place, and only two of them I would qualify for (Outdoor School Coordinator and Assistant Director). The others (Executive Director, Maintenance Director and Food Services Coordinator) I would not qualify for.
I am currently in the Outdoor Ed field, so it's not like I wouldn't have a shot at it. And I know from experience that turnover in these "assistant" roles is pretty high as people move around the country and move up in stature.
The problem is, I live halfway across the country from it, so it's not like I would read about it in the local paper or heard about it by word of mouth if one of those positions opened up.
Is there ANYTHING, anything at all I can do to sort of get my name into that place, or at least some way to HEAR about a job opening there when and if it opens up? You would think they would remember the effort of a guy who wants to work for them so badly, but also might be weirded out that some random guy is trying to get a job for them while they are already fully and happily staffed.
Does that make any sense? Does anyone have any tips on this situation?
Do they have a website? Often "employment opportunities" are listed there. Since you're also in the outdoor ed business why not get in touch with one of their staff in a similar position to yours to share ideas and programs?
