So I am about 2 months into a new job, and it is holiday time. Every company I have worked at has a different policy for the time between Christmas and New Year's.

Generally, after one really lonely year, I take the week off. Since it is quiet and boring. The only times I haven't taken the time off in my career is when I haven't had vacation days.

This year is a little different, my company is very informal about the official holidays. So I am confused! So I am working a bit.

How about you? What's your schedule?

My employee handbook dictates our time off for holidays, but it's a small company so they are a little more flexible. Officially we get Christmas Eve and Day and NYE and Day. But this year they decided to give us the 26th and 27th as well and I am so thankful! It's always nice to have some time to relax for the holidays. I hope you can find some time to relax.

We have Christmas and the day after as holidays, I am taking PTO Friday so it's a 2-day week then a 5-day weekend.

I have a 1/2 day tomorrow but may work OT for extra money (thanks Target hackers). Then I have to work full day the 26th and 27th.

I work at a University and my particular job is ion transition so right now I am on winter recess. Meaning no work from December 23-January1. It's a little weird since my last job never gave any paid time off and worked us every holiday. This is the first vacation I have had in years and it isn't even my actual vacation time.

Next year I will be working over some holidays and recess times, but will receive comp time in its place at a later date of my choosing.

Working in health care and getting hired toward the end of the year means I am working Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. It sucks---but that's okay, I know it won't be the same deal next year and I am happily employed.

I work in the public sector (union supported), so we don't get much of a choice - which for me is somewhat annoying, since I don't celebrate Christmas and would rather have an option of working or not. That being said, guess I can't complain since they're paid holidays.

We close early (at 5pm instead of our usual 8pm) tomorrow and on the 31st, and we're closed the 25th and Jan 1st. I then have to work this Thursday, off Friday, work Sat & Sun, off Monday, work Tues, and then I'm taking vacation from the 1st-6th. What a weird schedule!! Glad to have that first week in January, though, and will be heading to SoCal with my family.
