Well, obviously. I'm just annoyed that I've been having to run around like an idiot figuring out all the missing pieces of info to fill in the blanks. These reports are going into archives, so I don't want it coming back to bite us in the rear end a couple years from now.

Having said that, I now know why they fired the guy that got hired into the company with me. Man, his work was bad. Gives me a headache having to double check his stuff.

No offense but that guy needs to get with the times.

To be fair, I understand his reasoning, not that I agree with them.

For one thing, he's kinda tech illiterate. So, doing anything on the computer for him takes a long time. He translates that to mean it takes a long time for the rest of us to put together a report with a computer, too.

He thinks a handwritten report is a lot harder to fake, which is also true. Anyone can put in the effort to type out a report and then sneak it into our pile.

The main reason, I think, is he thinks a report that is cranked out DURING the inspection is a lot more valid than one that is put together later. And you can't really type up or run an excel spreadsheet while you're inspecting. So, logically hand writing everything out makes it look more authentic to him.

Because of him, I've been changing my program's output format to look exactly like the forms that he wants us to use. He's been nitpicking my work by going after looks instead of the actual math and accuracies. Thank goodness he hasn't found any real flaws. Just nitpicking little things here and there like the printout margin isn't exactly like the photocopied form's margin on the right side. I kid you not.

Again, this doesn't affect me that much most of the time. I report directly to the RE. I'm just wondering how a dinosaur like that could stay in the industry to now when everything is computerized.

Is this some kind of municipal job? He is going to be there until he decides to leave.

I can understand why he wishes to have you write out reports in long hand. The space bar on your computer is broken.
