How do you answer questions such as this on job applications if you have, in fact, been fired? I'm wondering because I have been released from a job not too long ago, but I've been saying no to these types of questions, as well as not listing that job info on my resume or anything else. The job only lasted about a week so I'm trying to act like it just never happened.

Are some employers likely to find out that you had a job you have been fired from if you don't let them know about the job at all?

A week??? LOL don't worry about it. It basically did "just never happen".

I don't see how they could ever know about it unless you elect to tell them.

If you were there a week, don't worry about it.

I can understand why an organization would ask this question. After all, the mantra is that if you were terminated or asked to resign from a job, you must have done something really wrong. I would agree that the mantra is not quite accurate. However, this question is also pretty stupid in some respects. If you're in your 50's, have had a very successful career of 30 plus years, but had been terminated from a position at, say, 22, would it really matter? Like, really, really?

And to answer the question in the back of some people's minds, I was recently on a job interview where I had to go all the way back to my first part time job at the age of 16 and had to answer the question as to where I worked, duties, pay, who my manager was, and how I ended up leaving. The interviewer thought I was hiding something because I only showed two employers prior to my current temp job. However, those two employers cumulatively represented 19 years of work history. I felt that my age, 48, it made no sense to go all the way back to my high school years to show what jobs I've had etc. Most employers only care about the last ten years. So, for some employers, this question would be relevant going all the way back to your high school part time jobs.

Are you sure that's the reason he really asked you to leave to keep his girlfriend in the country. Are you sure it didn't have anything to do with your writing skills? lol

Yes, I was fired from a temp job I held for about six months. Neither the client nor the contracting firm provided any explanation or clarification. I just moved on and don't even list it on my resume.
