1 year when they moved to an area I couldn't reach without a car and didn't have one so I found another job but it didn't work out and during those few weeks I secured a car so I went back to the old job and was welcomed with open arms! Stayed for another 16 months and then moved too far away to make the commute. Beginning with my 5th and 6th job I stayed for more than 10 years at each. Pensions (though small) will be nice when I get that old!
This past Velentine's Day was my 31st anniversary. I'm going for that 35-year "gold watch" before I hang it up and retire. I don't have a job . . . I get paid for a hobby.
3 years as a bank teller, then left for a receptionist job that paid much more. I wanted to stay at the bank but the opportunities were not there, and HR would not help me. (This was before company websites and online applying-we had a three ring binder to look at for other jobs-this was 1995).
Question somewhat related to this thread. I might have an opportunity to somewhat change my career direction, thus leaving my current employer(been there for 5 yrs). The problem is that i will be taking a big paycut short term wise. Also, the commute is much longer and having to pay a toll round trip. How many of you have done so before? I'm talking about a $15k paycut per year though it is likely i will only take the job for 1yr and then look elsewhere. It is an entry level type project coordinator/management position, thus basically starting over in a way.
I've worked here forever. But this job is more suited for someone in college, bored retiree, second job, etc. Have had my hours reduced from 40 to 32 due to downsizing and increased automation. The managers say the hours may be reduced even more meaning I may have to get a second job or begin relying on government assistance (which I have never taken in my life)
2.5 years...the first job is just to get some experience then go jump to a job with better pay (40% raise)
