Hi CD,

I've been on a temp contract for 8 months. It was supposed to be a three month, temp to hire contract. There's been unbelievable turnover here; I've had three new bosses and 7 new people in my department. I like the new people and asked this company if they have any intentions to hire me permanent?

They've pudded me around for a month now and left me hanging in temp status. Two of my new favorite people have already given their notice. I've been applying since I started working here and finally received a bite on my resume for a potential position.

What I'd like to know is - when asked on the interview why I want to leave my current position, is it ok to say because they never hired me as a permanent employee? Advice welcomed.

It is absolutely OK to say this, that you are looking for a more secure position.

Please be sure to say nothing at all critical about your current employer. Gush about them, even .... about how much you've learned, what a wonderful place it has been to work, but unfortunately, there just aren't any permanent openings.

"I am looking for security/stability and a full time position."

I agree, nothing negative about the previous employer. My last job before this one was not the greatest but I said I was looking for full time work and they just nodded and moved on. If you don't make it a big deal neither will they

If you get nervous, practice saying it in front of a mirror, that's what I do before interviews, practice all the questions I think they can throw at me. At my current job the boss was amazed at how cool and calm I was in my interview

^^^ Don't bad mouth your current employer and simply state that you are looking for stable, full time work. Everyone (except maybe your temp service) understands that.
