It has been over a decade, since I was fired. I dreaded coming to work everyday. One day, I said something stupid and got reported. I laugh about it now.
If I hadn't got fired, I would not be where I am today. I am so grateful for them letting me go. I didn't belong there. I have more than tripled my salary. I love my co-workers.
I've been 'diplomatically' 'let go' on two or three occasions and was able to move on. It's not about how many times you get knocked down in life but how many times you summon that inner spirit and get the fluck back on your feet. Feeling sorry for yourself never accomplished anything and NO ONE CARES either. I am fortunate to be resourceful, optimistic and was able to overcome great adversity in my life. And the more adversity I overcame, the more empowered I believe I am because I succeeded against many odds. I had someone tell me 'well those are probably good references but word on the street is you're bad news' and I joined LinkedIn and made a dynamite profile that got me TWO job offers in one month. My point is - stop feeling sorry for yourself and get your butt in gear, make your life better - that's your job, right now - to make your life better and move on to the next thing.
I would try to step back and examine the situation. What could I have done to make this not happen, or if I have something similar come up in the future then how should I handle things? I would use it as a learning experience.
So IF YOU have been fired in the past, how do you live with yourself?
How do you live with yourself starting all these ridiculous threads?

Office politics. Nothing other than.
It does suck, and you're right that it is mostly office politics. Even when a fired employee seems incompetent, it's often because of bad management because of ... office politics.
I was "let go" from my last job after a new department director came on board. He was gunning for me from Day One, and after nine years of increased success in my job I suddenly was the one who had to prove myself. Oh, well ... I have a good track record and good references. I'll find a place soon and my former boss can go to hell.

Sorry to hear that, but best of luck to you. I think that you'll do well..
