How would you go about doing this? My college is iffy, basically every semester I'm playing Russian roulette with my education so it's a hit and miss.

How does one get internships without going through the school? I was thinking about going to local CPA firms asking to shadow for free, or even volunteer for a low wage to help out. But I don't know whether this would come to bite me in the butt. I've heard stories of people doing this and stating that when they interviewed for a job, they got weird looks because they were doing unpaid work for so long.

For what it's worth, if things are going according to plan, I'd be able to move out of state next year. So the company that I'd be working/interning for, I won't be there long term... but hopefully I'd have enough experience to get a job in my new state.

Knowing that I'd move within a year (or two at worst), should I try to get the internship/work experience by volunteering/shadowing/working for low wages anyway? Or should I just get a random job and get something in my career field after the move?

1. Google internship programs.
2. Go to the career page of the companies you wish to target. Most have internship info on their site.
3. Google "create your own internship." You can contact companies on your own and see if they are willing to take you on as an intern.

Yes, always get experience even if it is short term. You need to build your resume.
