You are making more money than you ever made. I a if you start a fuss they may eliminate the position. What is more important to you?? The money or being right ??

Yes, your boss, any boss, is taking advantage of your contract status. They give you NO benefits whatsoever. No holiday, no vacation, no medical/dental. they just use your body for the physical work they want you to do. So sadly, they are not motivated to hire you in full-time.

Look for something else. Believe me, I was in your exact position. I was used and toyed around and then after 18 months, laid-off.

Regardless of the law, he's taking advantage of you, and would have taken advantage of anyone else who would have been "hired" if you didn't take the job.

Its easy to say "well then quit" but obviously its not that easy, especially if you left another job to take this one, and unless you have something already lined up, you'll be out of work.

I'm sorry you're in this situation. I've worked a contract position with the promise/hope I'd be brought on perm as well.

Lesson learned... always have your resume up to date and search for new jobs constantly.

Lesson 2 Contract to hire is contract. Only 27% of Contract to hire jobs turn permanent. Never give up a perm job for contract and always consider such jobs temporary and continue searching full effort for a perm job if you are forced to work one.

I gave up good perm jobs for contract jobs. So for some people, it's OK to do this as long as they know what they are getting into. I am happy with the choices I made to leave perm jobs for contract jobs (did it more than once). However, I have been doing contract work for many years I am realize the job can go away at any time(but the same is true for a so-called perm job as well).

At least it sounds like the OP is making decent money. Still, I'd be looking for something else while continuing to work there in the meantime.

in my field though one would have to be insane to give up perm for contract. Companies rarely directly hire contractors and they usually end up giving up all benefits and much better pay so that an agency can rip them off terribly. I still get calls from agencies peddling crapo contract jobs with no benefits and as little as half of my current salary.

Of course they are taking advantage of you.

You are making more money so start saving. And start looking for another job. Stop talking to your boss about being made permanent. Just smile and say how happy you are there while working like a madman to find something else. Take control of the situation. Don't just wait around for something to happen TO you.
