I am on some shaky ground with my position not being available soon and being relocated to different position in the company. Time off works in an odd fashion at my job you have to post it and Co worker's pick up your shifts. Once your day's or week is covered you can then get it approved by your manager to take time off.

Long story short I have a family event coming up, and figure do to status at work not right time to ask for time off. However, I posted if any co-worker be interested in switching shifts instead. Looking for feedback if a reasonable request or again hold off for the moment?

Thanks

If nobody has offered to take your shift yet, I would approach people to appeal to them in person. Just explain you have a family event you must attend and would be willing to switch with them. Be flexible. If they want you to work during a time you're usually off, do it, since you owe them at that point.

If nobody is willing to pick up your shift, I would mention it to your manager two weeks ahead of time, saying you've posted your request and also asked people if they would be willing to cover for you, and nobody has offered to help you out. Explain that you need the time off to attend a family function and wonder if you can get that day off without finding someone else to take your shift.

There is nothing wrong with shift trades at my place of employment. I suggest you ask someone face to face.
