I was hired at a large company in purchasing where 90% of the people are 20 something. They decided to try someone older that would stick with the position because the younger people they said are ready to move on after 6 month. If I decided to try for a different position would it be harder since I'm older. The other departments are mostly all 25 year olds. My dept seems to be the only one that is willing to hire older.

I don't understand how all these companies keep getting away with such blatant age discrimination.

You don't? They've all been doing it for years! In the 90s when I was in my 20s I noticed it back then. They just say it's "the fit component (culture)" or "older folks don't have the skills" (skills gap) or like here, "we have high turnover rate so we need a demographics that is going to stay." It's always been going on and will continue to, sadly.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but you're not going anywhere at this company. I don't know how they could've made that more clear.

Doesn't appear their experiment is working out well.

It doesn't hurt to try. Give it a shot, worst outcome is not getting the job.

Why do you say I'm not going anywhere?

You're right that probably is their excuse but there is no evidence that a younger person is going to stay a company longer than a 40something. Actually a 40something will probably be more likely to stay a company because they probably have a house payment and kids, and need job security. It's just sad how big of a complete joke the Dept of Labor is. Another big waste of tax payer money.
