We've seen numerous posts on these forums about not getting too close to coworkers, but do you think your coworkers really know you? Do they have a generally good idea about who you are and what you're about? Do you deliberately try to conceal information from them?
Not at all. The conclusions they come to are hilarious, but I prefer it that way. I am a private person, so the further you are from the real me, the better.
Do you think your coworkers really know you? Not personally. But they know how I work and what I am capable of (for work) and I know the same about them.
Do they have a generally good idea about who you are and what you're about? Not a clue.
Do you deliberately try to conceal information from them? Yes. But the entire team is like this. All business. No idle chit chat.
I work 100% remote and they don't even know what I look like. They don't know if I am married or whether I have a family. They don't know my age. They don't know my hobbies. And I don't know any info about them either.
It's all about work and nothing but the work. And it works well this way. No politics. No backstabbing. Great teamwork. Lots of work gets done. Everyone gets along very well. No gossip.
In some cases, yes I would feel they know me pretty well as far as likes, dislikes, attitude and temperament.. we spend quite a bit of time together so its somewhat tough to conceal it. You just need to know where not to cross that line into to personal and to close. I much prefer to come in, do my job, leave. Not chat and 'hang out'.

When I worked outside of our home no, they did not know me and had no reason to know me.
I was there to work not discuss my personal life and I always keep business and pleasure separate.
Do you think your coworkers really know you? A couple know me better than the rest, but only the things I want them to know.
Do they have a generally good idea about who you are and what you're about? They know about my work ethic and skills, which is all they need to know, but as for hobbies, hopes, dreams? No.
Do you deliberately try to conceal information from them? No, I just deflect the conversation if people ask about my life. I ask about their lives instead; most people are happy to talk about themselves and I get the rep of being a great conversationalist with minimal effort. And the things I learn! I am amazed by how many people just want/need a sympathetic ear. I would never blab, of course...which is one of the things I want people to know about me--that I am discreet.
Some of the ones I have worked with for years know me better than others. I don't deliberately conceal information; some things simply don't need to be discussed at work.
No. I'm private and what they know is everything I want them to know, or things I say for "tactical" reasons. I have a friend who was a coworker and she obviously knows more.
