A couple things come to mind - there were other reasons they wanted to let you go and used being late as the easiest and least complicated reason.
Also, some managers, especially in retail, feel they need to prove something and get so carried away micro managing - they make themselves more important than they really are to their job. The manager could have been up for a raise/promotion and thought it would make them look good by letting someone go.
Did you have any reviews with this company ? If so, you may want to go to the manager's boss or HR and get copies of what is in your file. I would think about discussing this a little with higher up in company especially if you're going to use this job in your resume.
Peter, you posted this on April 23rd, just over a week ago:
"i have been on here complaining about the fact that i dont have a job, now i finally got one at a store . but here is one thing i would like to point out, i am slight mentally challenge, one of my co workers picked up on the fact that they may think i have trouble, and may have to asked how to do something a couple more times vs the typical person who may pick up on things faster. now, i would like to know what if they say i cannot do the job fast enough or efficiently enough or something similar, and they decide they may have to let me go based on that. is there anything i can do ? "
So you just found a job about 10 days ago, and in that time you have been late (we suspect more than once) and you are wondering why you lost that job ? For starters, why were you late at all ? You should be at work EARLY, especially in the beginning, when you are trying to make a good impression.
But I think there is more to this than you just being late, you mentioned that you are slightly mentally challenged, and perhaps that made them realize that you were not able to perform the job they needed done. Not being cruel, but business is out there to make money, and each employee needs to do as much as they can and also BE ON TIME.
When you find a new job, make sure you learned a lesson from this one and work harder and show up at least 15 minutes early every work day so you are ready to go to work when your shift begins.
Being punctual for work is simple housekeeping. If you cannot control what time you are available for work it is very easy to find someone who will be able to.
You've had a job less than two weeks and you have been late "too much." For that reason alone it makes sense to cut you loose and move on to someone else.
