I graduated with a bachelor's in marketing in 2007 and have been trying mostly since then to get a job in Marketing. I have had no luck (no experience in the field, not even an internship). Some people say I am not outgoing enough or energetic enough for that field , despite having good communication skills. I am thinking of going back to school/changing careers but struggling to figure out what career I want.

I would like to know what you think of the job prospects in these fields and what you like and don't like about these fields:

-Engineering (electrical, mechanical, software)
-Computers (not sure what specific job title, but will consider what ever is the 'hot' job or jobs in this field)
-Architecture
-Film industry ( I live in Atlanta and supposedly the film industry is booming here but I have also heard it is VERY hard to get decent work)
-Teaching college
-Coaching (football or basketball, at the high school level)

I am a good communicator, like working in teams, can write well and I am decent at math and science and love those subjects, especially science. I am pretty laid back and not sure marketing fits my personality (I chose it as a major because I like the creativity of the field). I am pretty interested in sales too but everybody says they cannot see me as salesperson because I am not aggressive enough. Any other career suggestions you have would be welcome , as well

Engineering is best but it's a hell of a school program to get through. Definitely good work opportunity after that though for most people.

If you want something that just pays OK and where you can get a job, then I would just stick with what you got.

I can tell you that if you go back for 3 years to get an engineering degree and your expectation is you will get an instant job on a high paying track, you will probably be sorely disappointed. You'll be able to make a similar salary working in marketing.

If you want to do work you are passionate about, then do a brutal self-evaluation. Don't do this nickel and dime BS about what careers are good, and which majors pay the highest. Trust me on that.

I second engineering. The field is relatively stable and starting wages are decent to good depending on the field of specialization.

Software engineering is all the rave, if you can get into a good company. Have you done a personality test to match those results with career fields of like types?

No I have not done that. Thanks for the idea , though. I am going to look into that.

I only had a 2.3 GPA in undergrad so I doubt I could get into medical school.

Almost all of those fields you would have to go back to school for and the film industry? Be prepared to starve to death for about your first ten years.

Is that what you want to do? Go back to school?

Well, I just want to get into a field with good job prospects . I believe that lots of other fields would have better job prospects than marketing. Tons of people have marketing degrees and it seems like anyone I have known who is a marketer changes jobs every year.

Yeah I want to go back to school. I have been considering it for a while now. The film industry was only something I thought of doing because people say it is one of the hot jobs right now in Atlanta where I live, but I think you really have to know someone to get in. I guess it is like that for most fields now anyway
