NO. I am not a nurse but I do work in a hospital. Many of the nurses are mean as hell and seem miserable. Yeah, I get the job is stressful but so are other jobs.
Anyone hate nursing and think going into it was a mistake?
I'm a nurse and I like it. It can be stressful. We are compensated ALMOST fairly for the amount of responsibility we shoulder. Are there easier ways to make money? Sure. Nursing is stable though. At 26 I made 102k doing some OT.
I have a few friends who are nurses and while they don't HATE IT, they do not exactly love it either, i.e... nursing is not their dream job. It is more of a "I tolerate it" type job. As far as I know they are competent nurses so "tolerating" a job is good enough .
In order to be good at something, you need to be able to at least stand it. I only know a few nurses personally, but I don't know any who outright hate it. While everyone is going to have days of going through the motions, I wouldn't want to be cared for by a nurse that didn't give a damn.
I have a friend of mine who's daughter got a job as a nurse right out of school earning 85K.
I see her from time to time and overall she's a happy person and likes her job. Not bad having your own house and a nice car at age 24. Those complaining should look at the whole picture or they shouldn't have went into the field in the first place.
Yeah...they say altruistic nurses are the most likely to burnout. I had a professor who would tell us that nursing generally attracts codependent and altruistic people. Both traits are known for burning out. These individuals get into the field and realize that nursing isn't all fluffies and bunnies, so they burn out and say they hate it.
Yeah, I believe people burn out, however, there are so many things one can do with their RN that don't involve patient care. I am in nursing school now, I will probably do a few years in the hospital and then move on to something else that uses my license but doesn't involve patient care.
Right now, very few jobs pay as well as nursing does with the amount of education required. I have a BS and AS degree and am looking to get into a Nursing program.
102k as a nurse? I think not. Median pay is 65k top 10% is 80-90k. No way you're pulling over 100k as a nurse...
