Hello and Happy Holidays!

A treasury accountant with six year experience at a mobile carrier, is offered a job as a financial auditor at a big 4 company. The offered position is just one level above entry but the pay is much better.

At current work he is a strong name for promotion to become a supervisor, but this year he was passed over and compensated by an equivalent pay raise instead.
Even if he's promoted now, besides that pay raise, the big 4 position will still pay higher.

Assuming he gets offered a promotion to change his mind, putting money aside:
Which is better for his career?!
Six years treasury accountant + 2 years supervisor/sr. accountant (but in a specified field)
vs.
Six years treasury accountant + 2 years big 4 financial auditor?

Many thanks in advance.

I'd take more money and the name recognition you get from having a Big 4 on your resume. The only downside to that could be the hours, but I guess that depends on what exactly you're doing at the Big 4 place.

Don't underestimate having a good name on your resume. Do that for a couple of years and doors will open to other places.

As long as you're prepared for the hectic travel & work schedules, I say go work for Big 4 for a few years. The exciting part is that you'll learn alot by working on the different engagements. Also, it'll be easy to transition back to corporate afterwards. I'm looking into the Big 4 option myself after being in FP&A for several years and finding myself bored with it.
