Who would have thought, the last time I saw COBOL was when we did a new system about 1986 in CA..
Any older programmers that used it may find work in Washington State. Maybe recent retirees that remember the good old days.

Salary

$4,542.00 - $5,985.00 Monthly

That's great and all, except that .Net/Java guys with similar experience make $7,000 - $9,500 a month.

Yes, and that's why it doesn't make sense for someone to learn COBOL just for one of these jobs.
I can't imagine why they don't just start over with a new Java based program, but I suppose they must have done the math and decided it was too expensive.

But, if you are 60+, then no one will hire you to code Java.
They will hire you to code COBOL (or Cobol as the kids spell it now).

The world is flooded with old COBOL systems. It would take great effort and expense to replace them all, so people carry on with it and Big Iron.

The first job I ever had I met one at work that did it. You basically don't make any real new programs you just keep modifying the old one. I took it in high school and in college. Half of the errors are spelling the environment field wrong!

It's incredibly expensive. You have no idea how many businesses are running on COBOL-based software. Where I work, I expect we will still need COBOL skills for the next 15 years.

Our programmers salaries do not reflect specific code. In fact, I think our COBOL people might make a bit more because they have been there longer.

The system I worked on back then was just replaced a couple of years ago, mostly due to the retirements of anyone that could work on it. I remember when we first did that system, the previous one was Assembler, and the last programmer that knew it (age 72 at the time) announced his retirement so we had to do something.

To bad, so sad, y'all waited too long! I'm not up to 40 hours a week plus weekends and being on call at odd hours! And I'm among the youngest of the remaining COBOL programmers, LOL!

Good luck with that!
