My former employer would always very carefully consider if a lay off (they called if reduction in force or eliminating a position) was the best course of action because they would not bring back at the position for at least 6 months. They did not want anyone to even consider the employee could have been let go for discriminatory reasons. That being said they were notorious for letting highly paid employees go for "performance" issues and putting someone else in for less pay. My former VP was let go...62 years old and made about 175k, won an age discrimination suit against them because her performance was impeccable. So was your son let go for "performance" or was his position eliminated?

Try being a person with a physical disability and going to a job interview. They will 100% NEVER call you back. While things may be difficult for older workers, you probably don't have it that bad at the end of the day.

Really sorry to hear about your son.

A few years ago the company I work for got bought out (before I started). From each department one person was laid off, that person was the one making the most money.

It was total BS but legal!

I heard it took one of them almost a year to find a new job.
