well, wait, perhaps they DO realize this which is why they desire LAWS to make happen what a free market wont't...
There are plenty of people in third world countries that will eat dog crap, work for $0.25 an hour, live at work and put in 80 hours a week, and do it under extremely unsafe conditions. Just because there are people desperate enough to do it isn't an argument that we should allow employers to use that desperation to abuse people.

The govt has a place to ensure a minimal ethical conduct for businesses especially when enemies are calling us the great satan and we have a lot of business people happy to show them they're right. If companies don't want all the regulations, show they can behave with a modicum of ethics without them. So far they have utterly failed to do so.

provision for 1/2 hour break (non paid) when working an 8 hour shift.

FMLA should be across the board. Allowing someone who does have those family emergencies crop up early in the employ, be allowed to protect their job position while still attending to the family concern.

Do away with Obama Care. Business's should not be accountable.

you're joking, right?

You make it sounds as if we're in the early 20th century. . .

Another beautiful thing about the free market and at-will employment is that employees are free to move about and work for en employer that more suits their own needs. unless there are still cases of indentured servitude or cases of employers chaining employees to work stations then I believe your statement is rather absurd.

In an employers market a lot of employees do not have that option. They need to eat and employers have no market incentives to treat them as anything but crap and abuse the power situation they have over the workers. The govt's job is to set minimum standards in such a situation. Anyone who has spent any time reading the threads on this forum know that abuse by employers is rampant.

A lot of employers thought they had the right to coerce female employees to have sex with them and theoretically the women could say no and find better employers. Instead it was necessary to outlaw it because that is just not conduct we as a civilized society can accept. A lot of companies thought they had the right to say [epithet for racial, religious, national, or sexual group] need not apply. Again we had to pass a law because that is not conduct consistent with a civilized society.

No golden parachutes should be awarded to terminated incompetent CEOs of corporate America. And if that isn't passed, all of us terminated incompetent grunts should be provided with parachute amounts equal to theirs

All forms of nepotism/cronyism investigated and made illegal

After investigation, if evidence of both come to fruition the hiring manager should be automatically terminated with absolutely no backpay compensation or golden parachute

Nobody here said that they want the government to ban people from voluntarily working 7 days a week, 12 hour a day, and not take a vacation. But the rest of us don't want to be forced to work 7 days a week, 12 hours a day, and don't want to be forced to not take a vacation.

your hate of nepotism is just because you keep perceiving yourself on the short end of the stick, if you know people are going to hire people they like, you might as well use that to your advantage

social skills isn't hard, nor is it "restricted" to certain people

End "at-will employment", "right to work" and repeal the minimum wage.

I am happy to have OSHA and MSHA. Many of the regulations we have now were written in blood.
