Well, first the R is for "Registered". I don't say that to be snarky, but to let you know (in case you didn't) that these jobs require specific training and certifications.
My husband has tried to get into this field. Several years ago there was some training offered which culminated in certifications that have since been "cancelled". My understanding is that the field is relatively new and some of the certs are still changing and developing.
Based on what my husband has experienced, I would suggest that folks doing this type of work (especially the administrator role) have a good background in both medical terminology and in IT programs.
Other than that, I think it could be an interesting job. In some cases, it will most certainly involve converting older files to electronic. Mostly it will involve making sure new patients information is properly recorded in the electronic system of the hospital's choosing.
It's not a career, it's a registration and is part of what qualifies someone do to different things.
Nobody can answer the question the way that it is asked. You need to ask about a specific career/job rather than a credential that can apply to different careers/jobs.
