As long as I am not fired for causes like stealing, lying, etc., I can get unemployment.
Who knows whether or not you'll receive a timely response from the union. At this point, you cannot depend on them.

I wouldn't just hang around until I was canned, for several reasons. First, the employer can dispute the UI claim. They can claim gross negligence (or really, anything) against your UI claim, which will create an appeal. By the time you appeal and this works its way through the UI system, you may have very well found other employment.

If you were fired for performance/incompetence, then yes, you can get UI generally, but if you basically slacked off so much that the employer could show willful negligence, I doubt you will.

Post this story on the UI forum. There are experts there who are willing to help.

So when it comes right down to it as far as actually filing UI paper work, how many people are actually denyed and what are the true real reasons. I suspect a lot of this not getting UI is lore or people that did something illegal are trying to down play it to get sympathy?

I cant imagine UI gets denyed willy nilly, more like if your caught cooking the books or doing something that constitutes a felony not because of office politics where you lacked any leverage. I would think there would be legal standards for denying UI otherwise why even have it if companies can just unilaterally decide not to pay it because if that were the case no employer would ever pay it. People don't become unemployed because they are part of the A team, even in mass lay offs they keep the A team (unless the entire company goes belly up which I am guessing is not a large percentage of UI claims. So being unemployed is almost synonomus with performance but being on the B+ team is a far cry from commiting a felony. So if you cant get UI for being on the B team then what is UI for? you don't need UI if your a high performer.

So whats the straight dope here?

Okay, I finally sent an EMAIL to my union rep, as he is not returning calls (from me or one other worker in my clinic ).

If he continues to not respond, should I simply GO IN to the union office to try to get assistance?

It is a good hour plus in travel time from my work/home.

Aside from driving there and cornering the union rep, what other choice do you have? I am constantly amazed at how you ask questions that none of us would have any clue about, while you have all the info to make a decision.

I'm wondering if any unionized workers on the forum have any experience with not being able to get in touch with their union. In that case, what did you do?

Would you have preferred that your boss tell you when he did, or wish he had waited til you returned from vacation?

Would you think your boss is telling you that, under the circumstances, you shouldn't be taking vacation at all?
No. I would think that the higher-ups are unhappy with my performance, and do a performance improvement plan when I come back.

[enjoy your vacation]

Get a copy of the union contract and do the work yourself. You should be able to get it from the employer. Your union sounds terrible, and you probably won't get much help from them anyway. You're the one that knows your story best. You're going to have to do this on your own, or not do it at all.

They read your condescending, judgmental post on how boring their vacations are and feel you'd be happier cleaning hostels in exotic locations.
