I had to fire a girl halfway through a busy shift because I caught her smoking weed on the back dock. I had another manager in the office with me and was as professional and kind as I could have been. This girl had already had several write- ups for various things in the last couple of weeks, so it shouldn't have come as a true surprise. Well, she totally lost it. Stormed out of the office, ran through the kitchen knocking things over, broke plates, and scared the crap out of the dishwasher. I followed closely behind because, at that point, I was concerned she would grab a knife (kitchens are dangerous places). I got her out of the building and locked her out of the back dock. She kept screaming and pacing in the parking lot. Apparently, she had not driven herself to work and had nowhere to go. I called a cab driver I knew well and had him come pick her up. She's lucky I didn't call the cops on her.

Some were upset about it because I had been the only one in the evenings that actually helped anyone. I always did all I could to help a customer. I even dug through pallets to find food items for people that they needed for their holiday cooking. The other employees just blew them off and said they were out because they didn't want to dig around for it. So, customers knew I was a good employee. My last day was the day before Christmas. I ended up not doing much work that day and just kind of hung around doing as little as possible. I had already figured out that they'd lied to my face about not having spots available for me because they were hiring more temps. What were they going to do? Fire me twice? I helped customers like usual, but I did not do anything else.

Other jobs I was fired from I was made to leave immediately, but I was allowed to grab my purse and keys before leaving. The church I was fired from I got to grab my purse, keys, and child. My girl was too young to understand why we were leaving soon after getting there when we usually stayed a while and she would get to play, so she was crying hard as we were leaving because she wasn't allowed to play.
LMAO... Two things..

1) This is why you escort someone out immediately.

2) Don't hire this poster..

How many jobs have you been fired from? I have zero experience..

There is a big difference between someone getting 'Fired' and getting laid off..

They better lay off with dignity. Now there is no such promise for someone getting fired.

To answer the OP, I've worked in nursing homes for years.

They have a reputation for escorting a fired employee, most notably the Administistrator, off the property.

You couldn't pay me enough to work in that role. Very high turnover position.

I've only been laid off once in 20+ years (knock on wood). It was at a very small start up that basically went bankrupt and they just called an emergency meeting one Friday and laid off everyone at the same time. No real need to escort anyone out since we were all kind of relieved to be done there and they didn't have anything left to steal

Well in office buildings/places of employment of old, yes, there are ways of keeping or at least trying a terminated employee from returning. You just tell security/front desk that the person has been terminated and no longer is to be admitted.

Of course someone dead set on getting "revenge" can (and sadly has in more than a few instances) is going to get back onto the premises or close enough to cause harm/death.

Have seen persons terminated all sorts of ways and there is enough worry from employers to justify having security present. Persons react in many different ways to being made redundant and sometimes that news is not taken easily nor will the employee go quietly.

Managers/supervisors or whomever doing the firing have been physically attacked, company property damaged or stolen (including information that could be sold and or otherwise valuable to the competition), other employee or employees deemed to be held responsible for the termination (maybe they complained) attacked, and so it goes.

OTOH have seen/heard grown men break down into a sobbing mess as they begged and pleaded not to be let go. "I've got a wife and kids..." "Puhleeezeee"!

Steve Harvey has a funny bit on people being fired:

Got fired from a county job almost 20 years ago. It was a toxic environment; I lied about having jury duty just to stay off from work, and the boss found out that I didn't, so I got canned. I wasn't escorted off the premises, I was asked to collect my things and leave as soon as possible. I was out the door in about ten minutes.

The company was sold and everyone was let go. We were all given two choices--stay for a month and help out closing down the office and train a few people or lose your severance package. I chose to stay as I had 16 years on the job and package was considerable.

I was let go and told I could stay through friday. It was a wednesday. I checked the time and realized happy hour was starting soon. I informed the manager I am leaving now. I turned in my badge and triumphantly entered the bar a half hour later.
