Back in the 90s, I worked in customer service for a pharmaceutical benefits management company. Basically, the prescription portion of your health insurance. Our caliber of employees was fairly good. The money wasn't great but it was well above minimum wage. We were valued by management, and turnover was fairly low. There were only about 150 people on the floor of the call center.
A huge call center floor with a thousand people...that would definitely be soul sucking. Couple with sales objectives du jour to be met at any cost...I couldn't do it.
Definitely this. You'd think given the workers generally make poor wages compared to other types of employment they'd be more into not spending on a filthy habit that eats up as much money as it takes years off your life...
