So this woman came in for an interview and she has several tattoos on her neck and fingers/hands. Management was instantly turned off because of the tattoos. She looked like she belonged in a prison gang. This is a very professional finance office. I don't understand why people dont think about the consequence of getting tattoos in very visible areas.

the "consequences" are basically you deciding she should be socially punished for getting tattoos. you remove that decision and there are no consequences other than her having tattoos on her body.

I can see why - my firm wouldn't have hired her either. I know it is a matter of personal choice, but I personally find them trashy and unbecoming on women, and don't much like them on men either. If they are on her fingers, hands and neck, I would guess they would be rather hard to cover up for a job interview. If she wants to work in a corporate environment, it would be a turn off for many; in a more creative or laid-back work environment, management probably wouldn't care.

What if she had strong experience and ethics? You're still going to punish her?

As long as she can cover them, I don't see the problem.

People like you have set the standards of the "social norm".

Tattoos can be an indication of poor decision making. It is a factor in limiting potential professional job advancement.
