What would you think of them and doing this?

Check out this webpage, even a 6 figure engineer lives in a VAN. Not an RV, ok?!

Hey man, you're ok with me on that too. Ya fellow engineer! With the stupid way Eng is an unstable profession!

I lived 1 year in my minivan already and when I was shopping at a grocery store I saw an experienced old Mech Eng just work there for health insurance.

I like the idea of making your life less complicated. When you have less stuff and cleaning your "house" takes 30 minutes once a week, it's exactly that. Salary has nothing to do with it - there is a big movement among top 5% earners to save 80% of their income and retire by 40.

Besides

I'll share my own experience, I guess.

Late last year around November, an out-of-state branch of my company called up my office and asked if I could come down and manage a project for them. They simply ran out of engineers with the experiences that I have. I told them the only way I'm leaving my home to go that far for a job is if they pay for everything. Living arrangement, living expenses, travel, etc. They said ok. So, here I am far from home.

About the same time, my husband was getting ready to leave the country for 5 months. In other words, our house would just be sitting there collecting dust. We'd be paying for a house that just sits there collecting dust. So, we put our house on the market. When he comes back from abroad, he would simply come down here and live with me. We'd be living rent-free all expenses paid for for a year and a half. When the project is done down here, I will go back to my home state and we will buy another house.

That said, we could never live in a car or truck. I can't even fathom us doing that.

There's nothing wrong with it, if that's choice. I used to work with a guy who was living in his pickup truck, and now I have a co-worker who lives in his Class B RV.

I wouldn't think nothing of it. If he's single and has no issues with it then why should I? On the other hand, I'd probably feel sad if it were a family doing this. But, really none of my business so I wouldn't judge.

You know, I sometimes thinking of traveling around the nation doing contract jobs... and I'd live in my minivan... But I'm also either towing my Honda or a cargo trailer [to carry extra stuff].

But there are cities off my list to visit, or to be very careful off. They STUPIDLY imprison or fine you for living in your vehicle.

Id support his decision to save $. Then I'd invite him to a home cooked meal and if he needed his laundry done.. The washer and dryer were his for use. Mind you , I'd have family around so there wouldn't be any rumors .
Luckily he is in an area where cold winter blasts are not the norm..
