Amazon has announced that they are hiring 5000 at home CSR's, but only in a select list of states. Now, I feel Amazon can make any call on that they want, it's their company, but I am curious as to why they would want to do that on an at-home position. Are their metrics showing certain states have las than optimal employment results? I am trying to educate myself on the thought process.

Oh yes, that is definitely a great answer. Problem solved- just use a fake address.

When they ask for a copy of your driver's license, just remember to use white out and write over it with a sharpie.

Actually, while you're at it you might as well just create a new persona. Write down a fake name, social security number, and date of birth. If you're going to commit tax fraud, you might as well go all out.

Yes, this would definitely be for tax reasons. And like the previous poster indicated, there is no real way to fake in which state you live since when companies do this type of distributed call center they install the telephony.

Buy a out of state PO box lol.
I doubt they'll ask for a copy of your drivers license, but if they do, tell them you don't drive.

An employer is going to be asking for Identification to satisfy the I9 document and likely note your address for a variety of new hire paperwork.

Very unlikely using a fake address will be successful, to many barriers in place to stumble over.

tax reasons. health insurance reasons. they need to offer health insurance to full time employees and don't offer health insurance in certain states.
maybe even time zone reasons. having all CSR in 1 time zone makes it easier for managers to manage.

Yeah, tax reasons. Since they are online, they only have to collect taxes in a place where they have a physical presence or have made an agreement with the state government to collect. Having work-at-home employees would be counted as a physical presence. Since this is all virtual, it is easier just to advertise in a state where they are already getting those taxes to avoid opening a new Pandora's box in a state before they have to do so.
