Nothing the OP described is insubordination. Whining because your subordinate questions you shows weak leadership (and, IMO, such a person does not deserve to be called a leader). Managers are not infallible. The OP can learn a lot about his/her management style based on how he/she is dealing with this employee. Use that information to grow as a manager.
