A technical role may pay more than a first line manager role in some companies. But maybe not. Very dependent on context.

It depends on how in demand that role is. If it's IT-related, sometimes you can, you can move to a similar role with additional requirements for the same pay.

I was offered a management position, 3 years ago, I make $40k more than the management salary offered in a technical role with different software. My hours have gone down from 50+hours a week to just 40.
