I am a nanny but also supervise a daycare from a gym which the parents use when they want to work out. Throughout the very long summer, I have only had 3 children in each week of summer and many days where I have had no children in. I put this down to the fact that many of my regular kids are either on vacation or they can't come as they have older siblings who are outside the age limit of which I accept for the day care (Insurance reasons) so the Moms can't use the service during non school times.
My bosses haven't caught on yet and are very lax at checking out numbers of attendance but someone is going to find out soon and I am really worried. I feel like it is my fault and scared about my job security. What do you think of this?
I don't know for sure how much you make, but it seem to me like unemployment max would cover it.
And since being laid off wouldn't be your fault, you could hang on until they see what they decide. I agree enjoying your job is very important.
You should be using that time you are sitting around without any work to do to be hunting for another job. Because at some point, whether you bring it up or not, management will notice that they are paying you to do nothing and they will let you go.
sorry but unless you talk to them about it and get them to put some money into marketing the idea and getting people to use it, ignoring the problem doesn't make it go away. Be proactive on your own behalf and if that's not trying to come up with suggestions to increase the numbers where you are, use the time to find a job that won't be on the chopping block
