I've worked in broadcasting since the 90's. Mostly television news stations in Master Control and the Control Room during live newscasts. These days I deal with the re-transmission of live sporting events to wherever they need to go.
People are pretty much being replaced by automation and other software and any kind of pay TV in general is losing subscribers anyway. The internet and cell technology is taking over.
It also has usually meant working late at night and over night and I'm starting to get old. Mid 40's now, and after what my Doctor told me about that recently I'm trying to think what transferable skills I may have to change careers with a better paycheck and better hours. I also hope to be a little closer to friends and family in Nashville or Houston.
I've looked into SATCOM or other Satellite Uplink/Downlink work, which I actually have a lot of experience in, but they usually want military experience and their hours are usually a 24/7 rotating shift anyway.
I've also thought about traffic monitoring with a DOT in a major city but can never really find any job listings on their website that fit that description.
Some sort of desk job with an internet or cell company might be a good transition, but I'm not a salesman of any sort, though I am good with computers and software and logistics and keeping organized.
Any ideas you might have would certainly be welcome.
