This guy at my job was not working out in one department and has been demoted and sitting in a new location so he can be trained on another position. I personally would have preferred to be let go instead of coming to work everyday and having everyone seeing me in a new location due to my demoted status. That would be very embarrassing and I would rather get UC and find a new job.

Would you prefer to be fired or demoted?

Many work places don't out right fire because of the implication that could result from a non-performance related firing. Demotion is cheaper and easier, the worker could simply quit and they wouldn't have to pay any severance.

If I had a choice I would take the demotion and get another job, being fired leaves a blemish on your record too.

Not if you don't reveal you were fired on the application.

Some employers verify your leaving and why.

But I'd take the demotion also but only if the pay stayed similar and benefits.

I feel so bad for the guy and can barely make eye contact with him.

I know someone who was promoted from an RN to a manager; and after sometime she was too stressed out, she went back to be an RN. She is a very good RN. I don't see anything wrong with that. I would not feel ashamed. Someone could be good in some field and not good in the other.

It's a little different when it's your decision and not management.

It happens in companies a lot. I've seen a lot of older managers in one company or another - fall out of favor when new leadership arrives - and they are then demoted back into the ranks of the working stiff.

Many of the older ones have only 3-4 years to retire and they usually just ride it out to get what they need - a decent retirement.

Some will leave.

After a few months - no one cares.

Those that can do, those that can't teach.

Those that can't teach, supervise.

So for my job i'm there to make me happy, when that stops its time too move on.

Demoted is better. You're still employed
