This always bothered me. Several years ago i had a regular desk job file clerk. I decided to get some extra hours. I normally worked during the week. So i come in the morong and start...I remember leaving after about 4 hours.
Right as i got in the parking garage, my manager texts me saying I didn't properly do overtime. Is she right? I thougjt overtime was anything more than your regular schedule?
She said it was my regular 8 hours PLUS whatever hours I put in...

If your location is correct and you are in TX, OT is only calculated after you work 40 hours in the week. You could work 12 hours one day, 9 the next, 10 the next and 9...and you will not get OT in TX.

depends on employer, i have a set schedule of x to y, anything outside that is overtime. for example, i need to take two hours off at the start and stay two hours over at the end, no problem right, still eight hours? no, i need to put in leave for the first two hours and then request overtime for the two hours extra i stayed

True...but, generally if this is the case, the employee knows.

Yes, this. If you call in sick Monday then work 10 hours the rest of the week it’s still only 40 hours, so no overtime pay. This is how we manage to offer an alternative work schedule, such as four 10s, or every other Friday off.
