Just curious if anyone out there has done some all nighters and gotten home at 4am 5am and than tried to sleep to no avail. This is from doing some side jobs for extra cash. I am only able to sleep maybe 2 to 4 hours. The next day I don't really feel it, its the following 2 to 5 days that my memory and able to think straight is shot. I am going to stop it because of the health issues.

Absolutely. Keep doing that to yourself long enough and you will end up with permanent cognitive impairment. The human brain requires sufficient sleep and disrupting the circadian rhythm with mixed shift work is very damaging.

I do all-nighters by choice almost every night, usually only sleeping from 6-10am or thereabouts (my shifts usually start between 10:30am-12:30pm). But for someone who isn't naturally nocturnal like me, I can see how that would be disorienting. How is your bedroom set up? Does it have blackout shades, is it relatively quiet during the day, etc? I use blackout shades in my room, plus an eye mask and sometimes ear plugs if there's noise outside (or next door). A white noise machine or fan could also help, and Melatonin taken at the proper times can temporarily readjust your circadian rhythm. All or some of these tips should at least help you to get some sleep!

I have to do them occasionally and notice the same thing. Luckily I only do them a few times a year and not regularly.
