He is 65. Denny's is very lucky that he didn't have a heart attack when the police arrived to arrest him. BIG law suit potential in this scenario.

On the plus side, it will encourage others to refrain from this behavior.

A lawsuit because Denny's called the police to report a crime and the perpetrator was 65?

I'm glad the creep got caught. I feel sorry for his wife.

Oh Lord, unless he's already on probation/parole for a prior offense; he's not going to jail.

I had a guy give me two black eyes when I was 7 months pregnant & he went to jail. For an hour or two. And he was a convicted felon but he wasn't on probation or parole.

He got a deferred sentence & had to go to "anger management" classes where he passed with flying colors because he was so profoundly insightful & engaging (gag). It didn't even wind up being an "Assult" charge; it was "Harassment" or something like that.

A man was sentenced to 5 years in prison for stalking me for 18 months. Followed me everywhere. Knew my friends, family & daily routine. Broke into my apartment, with a knife & hid in the closet. Multiple times. Trapped me inside the complex laundry room. Tried to abduct me from a car wash. The FBI was called in. They called him "A Bundy"; classified him as the most dangerous type of sexually violent predator that existed within their profiling system.

He was out in two years.

Not a chance. There is no liability in reporting people for battery.

Probably true. In the grand scheme of things, people have committed worse assaults.

But the guy did get arrested, likely spent a few hours in custody, and will have to go to court a time or two. He may need to hire a lawyer, which will cost him some money. He will have a record of th3 arrest and charge.

At least this person will think twice before getting handsy with a woman trying to earn a living, and the knowledge that these consequences are out there may deter some other guy at some other time.

It is a far better result than simply shrugging it off.

Seriously?

I'm not defending the guy, but an old man who slapped a woman's rear end must have done something else wrong?

Right or wrong, when this guy was young, slapping a woman's rear end was probably a fairly acceptable practice. But, according to you, an old guy who is possibly just out-of-touch with current culture must also be a criminal?

Nothing like making a snap judgement about people based on minimal data, right?

Foolish man who probably didn't think he would be escorted out in silver bracelets. Unless he has a long rap sheet he wont do any time like coschristi said above.

Acceptable to whom?

Somewhat true. I am 50ish, and I knew when I was a kid that slapping a backside was inappropriate. I also knew that there would not be any penalty for doing so.

So what? It isn’t acceptable now, and with all the publicity, this should be well known. People should simply stop boorish behavior like this, regardless of their age or excuse. If they don’t, they should face the consequences.

Slapping a waitress's butt is not the kind of thing that a guy who respects women is going to impulsively do. It's the type of thing done by a guy who believes that he's entitled to touch women in any way he feels like it and that they exist solely for his pleasure. I mean, he waited for his wife to leave the table, so even though he's old he obviously knows it's the kind of thing that other people (especially his own wife) won't approve of, and he did it anyway because he's a ****ty guy. He's undoubtedly sexually harassed or assaulted other women before. This is probably just the first time he was arrested for it.
