I've posted on a few pages about various work issues. No easy answers to some of the issues but I do think we should document events and happenings as much as possible. Now with smart phones, it may be easy enough to get a video of someone mouthing off about this or that. I wish I could have done that years ago with a couple of supervisors who were famous for saying one thing today and something else tomorrow, denying they said this or that, etc. If you can't easily get good cam shots, at least put your phone in that direction and lay it down to catch a voice recording. Use it judicially, as it seems needed, and/or as risk dictates.

Keep EVERY paper memo, if these are used at all any more. My ex wife embarrassed a boss years ago at a chemical plant. He called a meeting and said they were doing such and such procedures about handling chemicals coming to their area. She said they'd been told they would not be handling chemicals. He disputed her, said that had never been said. She pulled out a memo from her file stating that all chemicals would be piped to the area with no contact until a certain point. He was mad enough to eat nails but she proved him wrong.

Make a paper copy of EVERY e mail about any significant issue. Online files could get wiped out by a virus, a blown hard drive or crooked management.

If something dishonest or unjust is happening in your work place, report it to higher management, anonymously if need be. ID your correspondence with a code number so you can claim it later if need be. It may not help things now but may be useful later on to prove you brought it to someone's attention and they did or didn't act on it. Don't be afraid to report something to police or regulatory authorities if it is a really big issue that could swallow up you or your coworkers.

Geez bro. What's happened to you over your career?

I'd advise your wife to stop trying to make a fool out of her boss.

And do the same about you're fellow workers. When they do things wrong, violate company policy or abuse benefits, make detailed notes and send them to human resources. Usually the first defense against useless employees who are eating up company resources are other employees who observe the act but to wimpy to say enough. Nothing worst than having your pay and benefits stagnated because dead weight, do nothing, skating co-workers are gaming the system and pulling yuo right down with them. So, by all means report bad management and suspicious action, but don't forget that the greatest hindrance to company and your personal advancement is that garbage co-worker standing next to you. Report them all!

I'm with you. Work isn't that deep. If you have to do all of this stuff, it would be easier to find a different job.

I appeal to the same audience. If you feel the need to secretly record and document "everything" then you're in an unhealthy environment and need to move on.

Seriously, this will effect your health and personal relationships.

It is that deep.

Despite the fake news - It's harder than ever to maintain or acquire a high paying ($100k+) job that is drama free.

I've worked in some good places and some chaotic ones. My ex didn't make a fool of her boss. He did that all by himself with his lying.

You have apparently been fortunate enough to work in good jobs with good companies. Not everyone is that fortunate.

My opinion is it's much more common to experience higher drama in low wage jobs than those that pay higher.

This is sometimes true too. I've seen my share of deadbeats. Overall, I've seen 3 reasons for troublesome coworkers and bosses. Meanness, jealousy and fear. Add laziness for deadbeats. Some people are just mean and enjoy hindering others in whatever ways they can. Jealous associates cannot stand to see anyone get ahead of them or get recognition for anything. Fear comes in where someone is so afraid to see you do well because you might replace them. One company I worked for had all 3 factors going strong. Small wonder the company got swallowed up by one of its competitors, the one they hated most. They had about 600 home office employees in my early years there. They now have no home office here and have about 40 people working from home, last I heard. A real shame. They had been a good place to work before all their mergers and reorganizations, according to old timers there. I made some lifelong friends there but do not miss the chaos we worked in every day; chaos that was largely unnecessary.

Yes!

And if co-workers show up late, or make mistakes, or say the wrong thing, go straight to their supervisor, or better yet as high as you can go, and report them.

It will make you look good. And you will get a raise. And a bigger house...
