How would you protect yourself from false accusations while in a job search? (average, employers)

Say that, like poor Brett Kavanaugh, someone made some false accusation against you along the line and, though it was proven false, it was out there and employers looking for info about you on Google, Facebook, etc, they could find this, not read the full story, and not hire you based on this. Is there a way to protect yourself from something like this?
