Which one do you guys prefer?

So, one of the things that has struck me is that I'm typically not motivated to do my job most days. Sometimes I end up staying late to make up for time that I'm not being that productive, and other people do that here too. My job is mostly self-motivation. I have work to do, but the deadlines are typically flexible, and the faster I can get it done, the faster I could technically get home. Of course, nobody here can ever get away with less than 8 hours no matter how efficient they are.

My ultimate preference would be a job that motivates me, at least most of the time.

I think at the end of the day, I'm better suited for a auto-motivated job.

That would be something like working as a nurse or like McDonalds.

You come in, you have a set duty that's given to you and you have to do it and then when the bell rings the day is over. If I'm not motivated by my job, I'm forced to do it. I might not like it any better, but at least I have more free time in my life. Downtime would also not be penalized as much.

For me, money is the only motivator. If I could take my interests, passion, hobbies, and other things that motivate me and turn that into a job, I would hate it because now I would have to do it rather than enjoy it whenever I wanted to.

I only work for money. That is my motivation. Also, I don't want to hear anything extra from management. So I get stuff done when I'm supposed to.

The money is my motivator. The job is easy, fun at times and the hours aren't bad....

What does that have to do with the question being posed?

Whether you're motivated by $ or not, being forced to work due to the nature of the job and having to derive all of the motivation internally is still a different thing.

?? This answers the question. Money stirs self motivation.

Money is essential to a certain point. But self motivation is what drives me to do what I do. It certainly isn't for the underwhelming pay. Nor the "fantastic" management. It's the sense of doing something that very few people do and making a difference in a way that most people won't even know about or understand.
