This article was a little surprising...especially with the current high unemployment rate.

“Educated gals, who may be sick of earning significantly less than their male counterparts, are ditching the office as their husbands bring home bigger paychecks...”

That's strange... About 2 years ago, I kept seeing articles claiming women were earning more than men on average...

If it's true, how nice for them. But I'm guessing the majority of women still have to work as well as their partners OR just don't have a partner and have to support themselves. Amazing how difficult it is to be a lady of leisure if you have no money coming in .

lol interesting extrapolation. 0.1% less women in the workforce...they couldn't possibly have been laid off or struggled more to find employment or anything like that. nope they all quit to be housewives

Interesting article! I used to be a Realtor, but left that over two years ago. Since I didn't find a JOB, I decided that my energies could be spent helping to save as much money from my husband's job as possible.

Like Ben Franklin said, a penney saved is a penney earned... so, I figure with the amount of money I save I'm actually earning a pretty healthy part time income!! as well as doing all the shopping, cooking, cleaning, gardening, paying of bills, investing, etc...

Lady of leisure, that's me!

I can't take women seriously when they choose to not have any type of job. I have a family member who doesn't work and actually thinks she's better than working women because her husband has a high enough paying job that affords her this luxury.

I can only understand women not working if they're taking care of very young kids. Otherwise I don't see any reason why they aren't working.

Maybe they are over 60 and employers aren't hiring - so they are trying to build a business out of their home.

That's a very random example and not the demographic addressed in the article.
