The irony.... A few weeks ago I was feeling a little uneasy about this position. Nothing fancy just your average 9-5 pencil pushing, desk job. Boss said I wasn't doing "Enough work". been working in similar environments so this wasnt really new to me. I have no idea why I was struggling. I guess you live and you learn. Im applying like crazy not really worried about landing on my feet. Ill get something but I just fear I'm going to be a nobody for the rest of my life. Doing the same thing. getting ****ty pay I'm smarter than that I can do it! just wish there was a better way to find what you love and make It a career. I'm constantly suffocating myself with these dead end jobs. when will it end and when will I find that dream job where I can make a good income and have time to go out into the world and travel, love, fight, live......
You will find that dream job only when/if you take control of the situation by getting the requisite training, degrees, or whatever is needed in order to land a better job. You said yourself that you’re suffocating yourself with these dead end jobs. You are doing it to yourself!
Set down and figure out some alternatives that you are interested in so far as a lifetime career and then talk to some people doing those jobs, and ask them how they got started. OP, the only way you will be a nobody for the rest of your life is if you give up and just accept the crumbs that people want to throw at you. Success comes to those who do not know the meaning of the word “quit”, so pick yourself up and get after it!

When you stop feeling sorry for yourself and believing that the world owes you all those things. It doesn't. Put on your big boy pants and act like a man. Or woman, whatever the case may be.
No one describes a worker as "pencil pushing" any longer. When the term actually applied which was over 30 years ago, even then people who did that type of work didn't describe themselves that way. Well, except for characters in cheap novels. There are no paper forms to fill out at your desk all day long like in those old TV shows. We all use computers in 2019. 9 to 5, was the title of a movie. Even banks have longer hours than that and are open on weekends.
This is a line from a David Mamet play, which was "Tell the truth, it's the easiest thing to remember".
Some people still use pencils to push keys on their cellphones.

Stop fearing it, get used to it. Your words say that you have an ingrained habit of sub-par performance and a lack of motivation to improve. With those characteristics, you will never make a good income and your traveling will likely best be done by hopping freight trains. The writing skills you display here appear to indicate a lack of education and/or ability, if your 'dream job' is 'ditch digger', maybe moving to a 3rd-world country lacking in mechanization will help you achieve it.

Truth is, you can't sit down and hope your dream job would come knocking at your door. You really need to step outside your comfort zone.
