Okay so I got a job at KFC last week. I had to delay my start 4 days because I got the flu. Now today is my fifth day and I also scheduled for a 4 hour shift. I woke up this morning sick as a dog agsin. I went to the ER and got an excuse. I called my boss and told her I was not gonna be in today and she didn't sound happy. I just feel awful about misismgthis much but I'm also very sick. Advice?

Even though it's not your fault you got sick, nonetheless you started off on the wrong foot. Four days off when you just started does not look good.

Start looking for other opportunities.

I’m starting a job in fast food at 31....

Just give her the office visit synopsis and show her that you really were very sick. It sucks, but it does happen to people.

Then you don't want to work there if they're not understanding.

If your employer does not understand that you are sick that is not a place you should want to work. People get sick it's a part of life.

Not only that, but if you DID get fired I'd go to the press or a local TV station. Imagine the bad press firing a person with influenza (or any other infectious disease) who is going to work in a food-related job that serves people...

It's not like you were on a salary. You didn't work, you weren't paid, you were sick and didn't want to make others sick. End of story.

Don't worry. I's sure McDonalds or Chick File will hire you if they let you go.

You'l' probably have to make up for this bad start, but employers need people so bad now I don't see them getting rid of you.
