Everytime I start a new job I go through two weeks of horrible jitters thinking I won't be able to do it. It literally makes me ill at the beginning. Anybody else get like this and, if so, how do you deal with it?

Yes I have been there. You are anxious thinking what do they expect of me, will I be good enough, do I really KNOW what I am doing, will the people like me, etc. Take a breath, relax and realize that you went through an application process and interviewed (most likely) and that they saw something in you that told them you could do the job. Do not second guess yourself. If your new job is anything like mine, the first 2 weeks will be just orientation, training, shadowing, reviewing procedures SOPs, etc. BUT I have worked somewhere that your first day was like hell: being thrown into the position like fresh meat. Hopefully your experience will not be like the latter. If so, rise to the challenge, ask your supervisor questions and be honest with your superiors: "I need some training or revew of this procedure before I can begin. I want to give you guys the best." You will do just fine-have confidence in yourself. You can do it!!! (from that Adam Sandler movie, forgot the name lol)

PG77 - it's totally normal to feel like that. Just relax and BREATHE. They hired you for a reason. You are GOOD. Don't doubt that. Good luck to you!!

Try to remember the other times you started a new job or went to a new school or new anything. Of course it's nervous-making, but you probably managed just fine before. I think, at least for me, the old school/job/thing had me on automatic pilot for some time- didn't have to pay attention, hustle, put on my game face. The new situation calls for it until you get a routine and rhythm down. Just remember that you always made it work before, and will again, and as someone pointed out, they hired you for a reason. Best wishes!

I feel this way too, when starting a new job. I have learned though to relax and just be myself. I tell myself that they were new once to....everyone has to learn. I remember the ones that treat me like crap later on, after I have been there awhile.

Post I can relate....

I'm starting a new job tomorrow and my stomach has been tied up in knots since I was offered the position. I have all the same issues: wanting to be liked, being good enough for the position. My knots probably wont go away until Friday at 5 and I cannot WAIT til then!
