If a company is running a background check on you, they usually have a serious interest in hiring you and would be willing to discuss any discrepancies in your credit that were out of your control (i.e. identify theft). If you are denied a position due to your background, the employer must disclose this and provide you with a copy of the background results (usually criminal and credit). They must also provide you with a copy of your rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act which allows you to dispute any misinformation in the background report.
